Since the National Digital (and AI) strategy in 2024 and the updated National Digital Strategy for 2025, the Irish government has promoted the adoption of generative AI tools in internal processing of data and to deliver public services. While media reports and government and company announcements mention such uses, several cases go unannounced or unnoticed due to little disclosed information. One of the difficulties is the search function of websites, especially government websites. In this project, we explore how truly open, accessible, and visible these uses are. You will scrape the webpages of 1) Bills and Acts, 2) Debates at https://www.oireachtas.ie/, and 3) 31 local authorities to identify and catalogue references to generative AI use. You will then analyse the use cases, dates, organisations and officials involved, models and vendors, costs where available, and relevant source documents. You will also identify guidelines and risk assessments (where available) for genAI use and assess whether such documents provide sufficient information.
