This project will explore how users select and customize avatars within educational virtual environments and how these choices affect engagement and identification with the learning experience. The student will review existing avatar customization systems, focusing on how well they support user identity expression and ease of use in educational contexts. Using a prototype avatar customization tool developed in Unity or Unreal Engine, the project will conduct user experiments where participants create avatars intended for a virtual classroom setting. Data collected will include customization choices, user satisfaction, and perceived connection with the avatar. The study aims to identify design features that encourage meaningful avatar creation and enhance learners’ sense of presence and motivation in virtual education environments. The results will provide practical recommendations for developing more effective avatar customization systems tailored to educational use.
