Following each census, the CSO releases small area population statistics (SAPS) data sets. These data sets are publicly available and provide highly granular information without compromising the privacy of individual respondents. For more details, see here: https://www.cso.ie/en/census/census2022/census2022smallareapopulationstatistics/ In this project you will analyse SAPS data. The overall objective is to investigate the distribution of departure times for morning commutes across Ireland, with a view to increasing the accuracy of the NTA’s Regional Modelling System, enabling better transport provision and transport planning. Over the course of the project, you will develop a good understanding of various statistical techniques such as spatial regression models and clustering methods, and learn how to apply and interpret these methods to large scale data. You will also need to think about how to the results of your analysis might affect various stakeholders whoa re impacted by the project’s themes.
