Data Cooperative Governance for Agreeing Data Space Access Requests – TAKEN

The EU data governance act provides for independent data intermediaries [1], and this allows for more democratic control over collections of shared personal data, e.g. from clinical trials or smart cities, to support new research and innovation activities. Setting these rules in collaboration with other users in order to share understanding of risks may help balance these asymmetries of power in how personal data is currently collected and used by digital platforms.

This project will develop a collaborative access control rule editing tool for the Data Space data connector [2]. It should allow these rules to be developed in larger groups managed under democratic principles, i.e. allowing drafts of rule to be proposed and voted on by groups willing to abide by shared rules. This should allow such groups to establish themselves as data cooperatives e.g  [3].

What you will learn: This project will involve developed web integration skills, semantic web and access control languages, as well as an understanding of the changing legal framework for data sharing and trusted data intermediaries outlined in the EU’s new data governance act.
