A previous MSc student built HydroNav (https://hydronav-frontend.vercel.app/), a platform that estimates Ireland’s green hydrogen production potential from renewable electricity and scores candidate facility sites on a national grid. That work established a useful pipeline and a working codebase, but its central quantity rests on a definition that does not match how the Irish system actually operates. Alongside this, the inherited work has several methodological and software defects that must be resolved before any result built on it can be trusted.
The aim of this project is to produce a defensible, reproducible, constraint-aware estimate of Ireland’s green hydrogen production potential from otherwise-wasted renewable electricity, supported by rigorously benchmarked forecasting models and a validated decision-support platform suitable for use by planners and policymakers.
This is a full-stack project. The candidate will work across the whole system: data pipeline, model training, REST API, and browser client. It suits a student who wants to leave with demonstrable experience on both sides of the stack. The modelling and platform work are not separable here.
